Saphera's Classic Oolong loose leaf tea is semi-fermented and imported from the northern Fujian region of China - a place considered to be a natural arboretum because the ecology has remained the same for over three million years (since the last ice age). Oolong tea from this region is considered as one of the most famous teas in China.
Saphera’s classic oolong leaf tea produces a flowery-sweet, somewhat woody flavour and aroma with more body than oolongs produced outside of China.
Oolong tea has many health benefits although it’s mostly known for its effectiveness in weight loss. Oolong tea is considered a fat-blocker and has been used in Chinese medicine to fight obesity for hundreds of years.
Oolong tea is made by picking oolong leaves and buds early in the morning, then letting them whither in direct sunlight throughout the day. The leaves are then taken indoors where they are dried. The drying causes fermentation during which time the tea is watched to ensure that a perfect semi-fermented level is reached. During this time the tea is rubbed to expose the plant’s natural moistures. The oolong tea is then dried or fired to stop fermentation and to preserve the tea for storage and transport.
